Club soda can be effective on fresh pet stains and old. However, it works its wonders only while it is effervescing, so you might need to apply it to the stain several times. Blot the stain then pour a bit of club soda on to the pet stain. Once the fizzing stops, repeat the process. If the stain is not fresh, you may have to follow up with some baking soda.

For light colored carpets, bleach may be an effective solution. With bleach, it is especially important to test this treatment in an inconspicuous area before proceeding. Mix ten parts water with one part bleach and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the pet stain, allow the solution to sit for fifteen seconds, and blot with water.

Finally, for dried, resistant pet stains, moisten the area before treatment. Mix a quart of water with a stain fighting laundry detergent. Pour this solution into a spray bottle. Allow the mixture to soak for a few minutes, then blot, rinsing with warm water and repeating as necessary.
