Many of us don’t give using products like environmentally friendly carpet cleaners much thought. But you should!
Face it. We spend a great deal of our waking time cleaning as a natural part of our daily lives. Like the taxman, cleaning is unavoidable!
But what we can avoid is the amount of toxic cleaning solvents and solutions to which we expose ourselves in the course of those daily cleaning rituals. If you take a good look at the contents label on your array of household cleaners, it is very likely you will be shocked to see the amount of truly harmfully toxic stuff you are using!
The good news is, there are alternatives to those nasty solutions, and they can be concocted right in your kitchen sink from common household items found in most kitchens, such as vinegar and baking soda.
Here are some very simple and inexpensive recipes:
For an eco-safe all-purpose cleaner: Just mix half-cup of vinegar, and a quarter-cup of baking soad in nine cups of water. This concoction can be safely stored for a long time.
Replace your brand-name with this handy glass cleaner: mix two teaspoons of white vinegar with four-and-a-half cups of warm water. You also can use one cup of rubbing alcohol with one cup of water and one tablespoon of vinegar for similar results. Both can be stored in a spray bottle for easy application.
An extra tip: Use newspapers instead of cleaning clothes to cut down on streaking. Make sure you are using only the black-and-white portion of the newspaper, not the color photos or ads as that ink will transfer.
Instead of using a commercial scouring powder, just sprinkle some baking soda over the spot and scrub away. For tougher sfcrubbing jobs, you can concoct a paste using equal parts of baking soda and water, let it sit for 10 minutes and try again.
Have a need for some mold remover in your showers or bathrooms? Just combine one part hydrogen peroxide with two parts water and place in a spray bottle. Apply to moldy surface; wait a minimum of one hour before rinsing or using the shower or bath tub.
Simple, inexpensive do-it-yourself recipes for eco-friendly cleaning! All make for a safer, cleaner, happier home!
